Heather's professional path is anything but conventional. After completing her degree in business with a focus on accounting, management, and finance, she faced a challenging job market post-2008.
Discovering blogging and Pinterest in 2016, she quickly grew her blog's traffic using Pinterest, eventually pivoting to offer Pinterest as a service.
Her deep understanding of Pinterest as a user became her competitive advantage, leading to the creation of a full-service Pinterest agency and an educational membership program.
How Pinterest Saved Her Business
In 2019, significant changes in Pinterest's algorithm drastically affected many blogs' traffic, including Heather's clients', yet it was also a turning point.
Heather adapted by offering Pinterest education, sharing her tried-and-true strategies. Her commitment to consistent, foundational tactics enabled her to create a sustainable business model that's been life-saving and potentially life-changing financially.
Pinterest Strategies for 2024
Heather emphasized the importance of developing a solid keyword strategy and using Pinterest’s Trends Tool—crucial for understanding what your audience is actively searching for.
Keywords should be used strategically across your Pinterest profile, pins, and the content you create, ensuring your material appears in relevant searches.
Importantly, Heather advises thinking of Pinterest as a search engine rather than a social platform, designed to park your content where your audience can discover it when they need it most.
Tackling Misconceptions: Pinterest Isn't Just for Recipes
Many people mistakenly believe Pinterest is only for personal use, like planning weddings or finding recipes.
Heather challenges that notion, highlighting that businesses are behind the content people engage with on the platform. From lead magnets to service pages, any content that provides value can find an audience on Pinterest.
Optimizing Your Pinterest Strategy
Heather recommends pinning daily but notes it’s far less time-consuming than maintaining a presence on Instagram or TikTok.
By scheduling pins in batches, leveraging Instagram content through Pinterest's new integration feature, and focusing on quality over quantity, businesses can maintain an active presence with minimal effort.
